A movie with a meaning

This weekend while thoroughly enjoying my most beloved task of doing nothing I was channel surfing and came across a really funny movie. The movie had relevance for our discussion so I thought I'd share my thoughts and see if you will share yours.
The movie was called, "Last Holiday," starting Queen Latifah and LL Cool J. I know what you're thinking, "LL Cool J.... nuff said. I'll watch!" But wait, the meaning behind the movie is what I found really interesting. Ok, who am I kidding I set the DVR to record as soon as I saw his name in the opening credits. :o)
Anyway, the Queen plays this lackluster kitchen department store retail sales associate. She is full figured, secretly desires her colleague (LL of course) but more importantly she has a passion for cooking but never eats her own food. She comes home from work everyday and with the help of Emeril (a.k.a BAM!) she prepares a gourmet meal for the little boy who lives next door. She proudly stands by watching the little boy enjoy her pan fried quail silently waiting for her Lean Cuisine to finish its 2 minute round in the microwave.
One day while at work she bumps her head on a kitchen cabinet door and ends up at the doctor. Unfortunately for the Queen, the doctor tells her that she’s got a rare brain tumor and will die in 3 weeks! It wasn’t until she got this deadly news that she finally decided to take the remaining days of her life and LIVE! The Queen decides to go to Europe where she sets off on a culinary adventure she’d literally waited her entire life to experience.
I laughed, cried and finished the movie with a greater appreciation for my culinary and otherwise unfulfilled passions. We each have passions that are completely outside of what we’re paid to do from 9-5 pm. My passion is for healthy living. The movie was lighthearted but it had serious significance folded neatly amongst the humor.
Don’t wait to start living. Don’t wait to plan your trip to Italy until you learn to speak Italian. All you need to know is “ciao.” Don’t wait to take or book your cruise until you lose 10 pounds. Buy a sarong and move on. Don’t wait to paint a self portrait because you don’t know how to paint. Who really knows how to paint? Really. Don’t wait until the end of the work day to stop, look up from the computer, walk outside, look up at the blue sky and appreciate the warm sun on your face. Tomorrow is not guaranteed and neither is your happiness. Go out there everyday and search for whatever makes you smile. When you find that joy, hold on to it tight and be thankful you had the courage to search for happiness and help someone else find the courage to search tomorrow.
