Don’t be a fan. Get in the game!

This afternoon my coworkers and I attended a Sales & Marketing Seminar that sparked lots of thoughtful discussion, some of which have been expressed in previous issues of Living Lightly. The seminar was called, “Get Motivated,” and was headlined by an impressive cast of speakers including Chesley Sellenburger, US Airways pilot who safely landed 155 passengers on the Hudson River, Tamara Lowe, Top Sales Training Expert and General Colin Powell, World Famous Solider-Statesmen. We each benefited from the seminar uniquely but I was impacted by the topic of personal activism and the return on this important investment.
I left the seminar with greater enthusiasm for action, communication, cultural service and team building. One speaker commented that we should each be a player in life, not a sideline observer. We can appreciate the hard work and effort of our coworkers, customers or community members but we need to be living examples of team work, community involvement and healthy lifestyles in hope that we will inspire and motive others. A true leader will empower clients, coworkers and neighbors to become conscious and engaged society members.
There are far too many people sitting on the sidelines because they are afraid to fail but guess what, you can’t win unless you play. The only failure in life is having no failures in your past that you've learned from. So, whether your dream is to be the top salesperson in your office, write a fiction novel, run a marathon or start a local non-profit you can’t win at life from the sidelines. Get motivated and get in the game!
