Three families journey to survive and thrive on Earth

I am fortunate to work with a great group of people. Each year we take a few moments out of our schedules to renew our sustainable knowledge and rejuvenate our collective and individual enthusiasm towards living responsibly. This year we had the pleasure of seeing a heart-warming portrayal of the animal kingdom spirit to survive and thrive in our changing environment.

Disney Nature debuted Earth on Earth Day April 22, 2009. Earth is a story of three animal families and their amazing journey to survive in the same place we call home; planet Earth. The film wasn’t a documentary so much as it gave viewers a glimpse into some of the world’s most extraordinary species' intimate moments. I enjoyed the film for several reasons. Sometimes we forget during our pursuits to build, consume and produce "more" that we share this planet and all its resources. We weren't here first and we might not be here last, so be respectful. The film was a subtle reminder that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, thus we need to be more mindful of life ripples we start everyday.

It is my opinion that Earth Day is everyday or at least it should be. Being mindful of environmental issues such as global warming, biodiversity or species conservation should be embedded in our daily rhetoric. Earth wasn’t just a story of three families’ journey to survive in challenging and constant changing environments. It was an opportunity to elevate the global subject matter of humanity, responsibility and conservation to an individual and personal experience.
