Childhood Fantasies

Children are some of the most creative, imaginative beings on the planet. They can engineer a semi-sophisticated ant house out of dirt, rain water, pure determination and imagination. They visualize faraway lands filled with flying dragons, singing beetle bugs and super power fighting ninja turtles. Yet somewhere along the way of becoming an adult we often lose the majority of our natural ability to be imaginative and think like a child.

As we grown up, we learn what’s real versus imaginary which often impedes our ability to see beyond our self-imposed boundaries. Children create new uses for old tools, they dance when there’s no music playing and often travel along the most exciting path to reach their destination. Our adult worlds often get smaller, less exciting and a lot less fun with each concession to think like everyone else.

So, next time you’re stuck in a rut trying to think of a new business idea or a way to invigorate sales or office moral try returning to your childhood fantasies. Some of the most successful business ideas started as a seemingly kooky idea. We should all aspire to see the business world as children see the world; an endless opportunity for our imaginations to create new possibilities.
